Barton, VT - The Lake Region Union High School music department presents the annual Spring chorus concert on Wednesday, May 1st at 7:00 PM at the Barton Municipal Building. The chorus, select chorus, LR jazz band and OCSU middle school singers will present a lively program of gospel music, jazz, pop and blues. We are delighted to welcome Dr. Kathy Bullock as guest conductor and performer. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to support scholarship funds and clinicians for OCSU music programs. Dr. Kathy Bullock is an educator, scholar, singer, accompanist, arranger and choral conductor who specializes in gospel music, spirituals and classical works by composers from the African diaspora. A Professor Emerita of Music from Berea College, Berea, Kentucky, she currently teaches, performs, and conducts workshops and other programs on African American music throughout the United States, Europe, and Africa. Bullock will be teaching and leading gospel standards and freedom songs such as "You're the One" by Dr. Raymond Wise, ""Ooh Child" as sung by the Edwin Hawkins Singers, and "Children, We All Shall Be free" and "Nat Turner" from "Songs of Slavery and Emancipation." Dr. Sara Doncaster, Music Director at Lake Region, will be leading the select chorus and jazz band; repertoire highlights include "A Change is Gonna Come," "I Woke up this Morning with My Mind Set on Freedom," and traditional New Orleans jazz favorites.
